In March of 1979, my sister-in-law and I were trying to decide what it was that we were going to do with the rest of our lives. Donald and I had two children and Trudy (my sister-in-law) and Doug had one. Trudy and I decided to take the H&R Block tax class.
After passing the two tests required by Oregon, and a year of supervision, we each opened our own tax practice.
8 years later, I went back to school where I got my postbaccalaureate in accounting. I passed the CPA exam, did my two years of supervision, and received my CPA certification.
2 years later I opened my own practice. At that point, I had been doing taxes for 13 seasons. 3 years later I felt that I had a great deal of tax knowledge but not enough. I returned to PSU and received my Master’s in Taxation degree. This provided me with greater knowledge and skills to help my clients file fair and accurate tax returns while using every tax reduction method legally available.
In 2001, I added financial planning to the firm. I passed the 3 FINRA required exams, insurance exam, and the CFP exam. I felt that I needed that education, at a minimum, to be able to assist clients in preparing for their financial futures.
Today, I still do taxes for finance clients, but financial planning is where I spend most of my time. It is truly a passion of mine to be able to provide good working portfolios that help clients grow into the future. I am so luck to have always been able to love the work I do and the people I work for.
